Biennial Sailing Events

Rolex China Sea Race

The biennial, 565NM Rolex China Sea Race is a category 1 race from Hong Kong to the Philippines started in 2008, but was preceded by the 'China Sea Race' that was ran in every even-numbered year since 1962. The event attracts participation from yachts from around Asia. The finish-line for the Rolex China Sea Race is at the mouth of Subic Bay between Grande Island and the southern tip of the Zambales peninsula. The feature of the Rolex China Sea Race is that for the majority of the race, participating yachts most frequently enjoy a broad-reach under the influence of the northeast monsoon. The current race record for participating monohulls is less than 48 hours (set in 2016 by the Australian yacht Alive) whilst the record for participating multihulls is less than 39 hours (set in 2018 by the Hong Kong trimaran Beau Geste)

The Rolex China Sea Race is open to all yachts and there are multiple categories for IRC racing yachts, other racing yachts, ocean multihulls and cruising yachts.

The event is scheduled to start in Hong Kong during the week preceding Easter Sunday during even-numbered years.

San Fernando Race

The biennial, 480NM San Fernando Race from Hong Kong to San Fernando, La Union, Philippines, was first run in 1977 and has be held almost every odd-numbered year since then. The finish-line for the San Fernando Race is traditionally off the Bauang Beach, San Fernando, although other destinations have been considered over the years, even to as far south as Puerto Galera. The San Fernando Race is typically more attractive to cruising yachts than the Rolex China Sea Race but still attracts some of the best racing yachts in Asia. As with the Rolex China Sea Race the main attraction is sailing broad-reach under the influence of the northeast monsoon but with the added challenges of navigating through the influence of the mountainous peaks of central Luzon for the last quarter of the race.

The San Fernando Race is open to all yachts and there are multiple categories for IRC racing yachts, other racing yachts, ocean multihulls and cruising yachts.

The event is scheduled to start in Hong Kong during the week preceding Easter Sunday during odd-numbered years.
